THE PAIRIN SURVEY & THE TEN PRINCIPLES

As recent signatories of the Ten Principles for Building a High-Quality System of Assessments, we are examining The PAIRIN Survey through the lens of the best practices offered in the Ten Principles publication.

The PAIRIN Survey is our scientifically-validated tool which measures over 100 coachable and changeable SEL behaviors. The survey is in overwhelming alignment with the Ten Principles, as evidenced below.

Principle 01 is exactly what we do at PAIRIN. The PAIRIN Survey provides comprehensive results on more than 100 attributes related to long-term job success. It measures social-emotional and professional skills such as initiative, interpersonal relating, problem-solving, critical thinking, creativity, productivity and grit.

Upon surveying, students immediately receive insights about several of their top qualities which can inform and inspire future educational and/or career paths.

In addition to simplified English, the survey can be taken in five other languages and includes an audible version to accommodate English learners or students with disabilities.

PAIRIN provides educator training on how to generate student buy-in, administer the Survey, and how to access and interpret student data.

The PAIRIN Survey replicates all major noncognitive measures, such as Emotional Intelligence (Daniel Goleman), Grit (Angela Duckworth), Character Strengths & Virtues (Seligman),  Needs Theory (Henry Murray), Transactional Analysis (Eric Berne) and Thinking Styles (George Welsh), eliminating the need for repeated assessment.

Measures verify changeable behaviors and track growth over time which allows students to see and celebrate progress throughout the year(s). The PAIRIN system saves results from each assessment to support the analysis of past and current surveys as well as growth over time. Dashboards provide unique interfaces and content for each type of user, including students, teachers, and administrators. User-specific insights, tips, and questions lend themselves to discussions and access to career path options. Students’ dashboards display their top four qualities and provide access to 300 online SEL micro-lessons prioritized based on their specific development needs.

Principle 07 requires a holistic examination of an organization’s system of assessments. PAIRIN’s assessments are an important ingredient in this larger recipe; however, none of our assessments can accomplish this on its own. We are committed to continuously refining our role in this larger system of assessments, doing so through the valuable feedback of our clients, partners, and stakeholders.

The PAIRIN Survey is under continual review and improvement.  

  • Monthly user meetings and 1:1 meetings with clients in which PAIRIN solicits and receives feedback about user experience.
  • Dr. Ron Young—Co-Founder, Chief Science Officer, and clinical psychologist—oversees the measure, stays current on relevant research, and reviews all applications of the science.

The PAIRIN Survey has been authenticated as a reliable, valid, accurate and non-discriminatory instrument. PAIRIN’s Behavioral Testing is based on Dr. Harrison Gough’s Adjective Check List (ACL). Drawn from an initial sample size of 9,382 individuals and normalized over fifteen years, PAIRIN also produced a document detailing the reliability and validity of the ALC based on the current normative sample, points of application, and EEOC compliance (Source: PAIRIN.com).

Data is protected and secure. The PAIRIN Survey responses are stored separately from user data and encrypted while at rest.

Overall, The PAIRIN Survey aligns extremely well with the Ten Principles. Aspects of The PAIRIN Survey connect to each Principle individually, while creating a cohesive example of a high-quality assessment.
